ZARIA POLO CLUB HISTORY

The Zaria Polo Club is one of the earliest Polo clubs established in the northern part of Nigeria; it was founded in the early 1900s by the British Army who later on was joined by both expatriate and local civilians. The club had gone into dormancy several times with the recent one being from 1998 to 2009. It was revived through the concerted efforts of its current membership and with much support from the one of the Telecoms Companies, MTN. Zaria Polo Club applied to rejoin the NPF in 2009 and was given provisional membership which was very recently converted to full membership as a Grade C club. It has current membership strength of 38, most of them active polo players.

The Zaria polo club has one playing field integrated in a facility that includes a race course and a golf course. It also has one of the oldest club houses within the polo circuit. The polo field in Zaria is playable almost throughout the year.

The Club’s usual tournament comes up on April, over the Easter Holiday while mini tournament are held during the festive seasons, such as sallah (Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitr) etc.
